Dadi Valdimarsson in ARMO WeRoll - Sustainability as an opportunity

In the latest issue of ARMO WeRoll magazine, Rotovia’s CEO, Dadi Valdimarsson, shares his vision for the future of the rotational moulding industry and highlights how sustainability has become an integral part of our company’s operations. In the interview, he discusses energy efficiency, recycling, technological innovation, and the role of new materials – outlining the directions in which modern rotomoulding is evolving.

Sustainability as a daily practice

At Rotovia, sustainability is not a statement; it is a way of operating. As Dadi Valdimarsson emphasises: “At Rotovia, we’ve made sustainability a concrete part of how we operate — not just a statement, but something that shows up in our decisions and design work.”

We continuously design our products to use less virgin polymer while maintaining their strength and durability. At the same time, we are gradually increasing the share of recycled content in production – our goal is to reach 20% by 2028. An important step in this process is the implementation of a take-back system for end-of-life products, allowing us to close the loop and reduce waste. These actions go hand in hand with improvements in energy efficiency — part of our production already runs on electric ovens powered by renewable sources such as hydro and solar energy.

Innovation in the rotomoulding process

As Rotovia’s CEO points out, our role goes far beyond manufacturing: “We don’t just manufacture, we work alongside our partners from the earliest design stages to the final product.”

We collaborate with partners from the concept phase to the finished solution, applying our expertise in design and material selection. Our Custom Moulding division co-develops products that meet individual customer requirements. In addition, through brands such as iTUB, we offer pooling and rental models that provide operational flexibility while supporting the circular economy by ensuring that every tub is cleaned, reused, and kept in circulation.

The vision for the industry’s future

According to Dadi Valdimarsson, rotational moulding still has significant room for growth: “Rotational moulding hasn’t reached its ceiling — far from it. The technology continues to evolve, driven by innovation, sustainability goals, and new applications across industries.”

He highlights renewable energy as one of the most promising sectors, where the need for durable, large, and complex components perfectly aligns with what rotomoulding can deliver. The technology’s flexibility and ability to produce seamless, uniform parts make it especially valuable in industries where both performance and design freedom are essential.

New materials and the evolution of technology

The development of biopolymers and high-quality recycled materials opens new opportunities to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint. As Dadi Valdimarsson notes: “On average, the carbon footprint of recycled polyethylene is only about 30% of that of virgin material.”

At Rotovia, reaching 20% recycled content is expected to reduce our raw material-related CO₂ footprint by around 15%. In the coming years, new heating technologies, automation, and digitalisation will play an increasingly important role in production efficiency. As Rotovia’s CEO adds, the future will be “cleaner, leaner, and more connected”.
